Criteria for Nomination

The following Criteria for nominating and electing an individual into the Arlington Sports Hall of Fame (ASHOF) was, pursuant to ASHOF By-laws, adopted by the ASHOF Board of Directors on Oct. 27, 2016.

General

Nominees must exemplify the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and moral character.

Candidates will be judged on their significant and/or long term contributions to athletics and must have excelled in their field of sport. Longevity, without significant or unusual accomplishment, does not constitute appropriate credentials.

The nominee categories set forth below have been created for screening purposes to better understand the primary area for which an individual is being nominated. Once nominees are approved, they are no longer categorized.

Eligibility

In keeping with the purpose of recognizing and honoring achievement in and through sports and to promote Arlington County, there shall be, for purposes of eligibility, three types of nominees:

1. Athletes,
2. Coaches, and
3. Contributors (which includes but is not limited to individuals who have participated in sports as administrators, officials, medical or media personnel, or patrons/sponsors, but not necessarily to include staff not directly involved with sports).

As to Athletes:

1. Shall have had significant athletic achievement in amateur or professional sports, on a collegiate, state, national, international, or Olympic level, AND
2. Shall have attended high school in Arlington, or
3. Shall have resided in Arlington during high school, or
4. Be or had been a long-time resident of Arlington, or
5. Have or had enduring ties with Arlington, AND
6. Must exemplify the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and moral character, AND
7. Other than for exceptional reasons, such as World recognition, will become eligible thirty (30) years after their birth.

As to Coaches:

1. Shall be considered on the merits of their coaching achievements at the Arlington youth level (public or private school), collegiate, regional, state, national, international, or Olympic levels, AND
2. Be or had been a long-time resident of Arlington, or
3. Have or had enduring ties with Arlington, AND
4. Must exemplify the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and moral character, AND
5. Will become eligible forty (40) years after their birth.

As to Contributors:

1. Shall be considered on the basis of prominent service involving the administering, treating, reporting, or sponsorship of Arlington youth, high school, college, or other amateur or professional sports, AND
2. Be or had been a long-time resident of Arlington, or
3. Have or had enduring ties with Arlington, AND
4. Must exemplify the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and moral character, AND
5. Will become eligible forty (40) years after their birth.
